One Year On Since The War On Gaza

Oppressing the demonstrators,

exonerating the perpetrators

2015 marks the first anniversary of the latest Israeli aggression on Gaza. One year is not enough to heal the devastation of the Gaza catastrophe; neither to clear the rubble of the tens of thousands of destroyed homes and schools by air strikes, nor to relieve the suffering of the wounded, nor to ease the pain of those who have lost their loved ones. But one year was enough time for Israel to close tens of investigations into horrendous war crimes committed in Gaza, and to conclude that the Israeli army - soldiers, commanders and political leaders - does not carry responsibility for the killing of 2,251 people, more than 550 of whom were children.  Photo: Iyad al Baba/Oxfam

How did Israel suppress
the anti-war protestors?

In Israel, oppression, violence and persecution were part of the daily life of Palestinian citizens of the state that expressed solidarity with the people of Gaza during the 2014 war. Severe acts included police brutality against demonstrators, mass arrests, persecution for Facebook posts, the firing of workers from their workplaces, the expulsion of students from their universities, and the cutting of vital services in Arab towns, among others. These repressive measures were undertaken to make sure that no voice would be louder than the voice of the war, the sounds of gunfire and the sounds of massive shelling.  Faiz Abu Rmeleh / Activestills
