Three years have now passed since Israel's 2014 military offensive in the Gaza Strip that killed 2,251 Palestinians – the vast majority of whom were civilians – including 299 women and 551 children, and destroyed 18,000 homes and other civilian structures.
Adalah and Al Mezan Center for Human Rights filed a series of complaints into 28 incidents to the Israeli authorities demanding independent investigations and criminal prosecutions for suspected violations of international law. But three years on, there has not been a single indictment in the cases we filed, and not even a response from the Attorney General to appeals against case closures. Israeli authorities have also not released any updates on the cases since August 2016.
The AG has even failed to respond – for two years – to our appeals against the closing of an investigation into one of the most infamous incidents of the war: the killing of four boys from the Bakr family who were playing soccer on the Gaza beach.
