November 2018
Dear friends,

This week offers a great opportunity to show your support for Palestinian human rights, as #GivingTuesday (27 November) arrives just two days before the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (29 November).

This means that the donations you make on 27 November (00:00 EST to 23:59 EST) count for even more towards crowdfunding projects on Global Giving.
Here’s why: We are the only Palestinian legal center that defends the rights of Palestinians both in Israel and in the Occupied Territory.

To understand why that matters, take a look at the scope of some of our biggest cases of the past year:

Israel: Since the Knesset passed the discriminatory “Jewish Nation-State Law” this past July, Adalah has been at the forefront of the global campaign to overturn it. Adalah launched a legal challenge before the Supreme Court on behalf of all the Palestinian political leadership in Israel, produced a widely-read analysis of the law’s harmful consequences for Palestinians, and is shaping public and political opinion by engaging with policy-makers and giving talks and media interviews in Israel and abroad. In November, in response to Adalah's special request for action, four UN special rapporteurs gave Israel a 60-day deadline to respond to their grave concerns regarding the law.

Gaza: When the Israeli military ordered its snipers to use lethal force against thousands of unarmed Palestinians protesting in the Great March of Return, Adalah worked with Al Mezan Center for Human Rights to document cases of unjustified killings and to challenge the illegal policy in court. Our legal actions helped to secure a wounded Palestinian protestor urgent access to a West Bank hospital, which saved one of his legs. We also provided key evidence to international bodies pursuing accountability, including the 2018 UN Commission of Inquiry.

West Bank: As the Israeli government advances a series of “Annexation Laws” to formally annex vast tracts of the occupied West Bank, Adalah and its partners are representing 17 Palestinian villages in court to strike down a law that permits the seizure of private Palestinians lands and legalizes scores of Israeli settlements. Adalah is monitoring over 20 other annexation bills and keeping international actors – including the UN Security Council and the EU – informed about this dangerous and illegal legislative campaign.

Adalah’s work for Palestinians on both sides of the Green Line makes us a vital, unique part of the movement to protect and promote Palestinian human rights. That role is possible thanks to your support.
Mark this day of solidarity by

As we enter 2019, the need for Adalah’s presence before the Israeli courts, international forums, and the media is greater than ever. Your donations on 27 November will ensure that we can continue to respond to urgent developments on the ground and provide the highest quality of legal representation to Palestinians most in need.

In solidarity,
