PRESS BRIEF | Adalah appeals decision to close probe into Israeli police wounding of 4 Palestinians in Jaffa-Tel Aviv, including three minors

One of the complainants was hospitalized in intensive care with severe wounds. Adalah filed a complaint to Police Investigation Department in September 2021, but PID closed the investigation.

On 29 September 2022, Adalah filed an appeal to the Israeli State Attorney’s Office on behalf of four Palestinian citizens of Israel - including three minors - against the Israel’ Police Investigation Department’s (PID) decision to close the investigation into their injury in Jaffa-Tel Aviv from rubber bullets fired by police in May 2021. One of the complainants was hospitalized in an intensive care unit for sustaining severe wounds. Adalah filed a complaint to the PID on 6 September 2021, but the PID closed the investigation. In the appeal, Adalah argued that that the investigative authority failed to conduct an effective and adequate investigation, did not summon witnesses, and did not use the means at its disposal in order to legally establish a factual basis. Adalah demanded to immediately open an objective, independent, efficient criminal investigation, to prosecute the officers involved for serious assault, and to publish clear and complete guidelines regarding the use of measures to disperse demonstrations, especially rubber and sponge bullets.
