PRESS BRIEF | Adalah demands school transport for special needs children from Naqab Bedouin village

Two special needs children are forced to travel up to 14 kilometers in order to reach special education schools outside their village. Due to lack of transportation, their father has been forced to drive his son to school at his own expense.

On 29 September 2022, Adalah, on behalf of Y.A.K., a resident of the Palestinian Bedouin village of Um Batin in the Naqab (Negev), sent an urgent letter to Israel’s Ministry of Education and to Al-Qassum Regional Council demanding that they act in order to provide transportation to children with special needs from the village. Y.A.K’s two children are forced to travel up to 14 kilometers in order to reach special education schools outside their village. Due to the lack of transportation, the father has been forced to drive his son at his own expense to school, while his daughter remained home since the start of the school year. Adalah demanded the provision of adequate and regular transportation to the educational institutions where the children study.
