Israeli Soldier Shot at Demonstrators Near the Jenin Checkpoint

At about 12:10 p.m. today, Adalah received eyewitness reports that a uniformed Israeli soldier, in a civilian car, opened fire with live ammunition on about 100 demonstrators on their way to the Jenin checkpoint. At least two Palestinian citizens of Israel have been shot and injured - Ms. Valentina Abu Oksa and another unidentified young man. According to Adalah Staff Attorney Suhad Bishara and Mr. Ashraf Hanna, who are at the scene, Israeli settlers were throwing stones at the protestors prior to the shooting. The settlers also burned tires to block the road in order to prevent the demonstrators from reaching the checkpoint. Photographs of these events have been taken by the demonstrators.
