Adalah: Israeli army raid on Palestinian NGO’s office is direct attack on human rights

Israeli troops stole documents and computers, damaged Addameer’s office; Adalah: Raid lays bare Israel’s continuing crackdown on civil society institutions, and on its efforts to defame and incite against human rights defenders.

Adalah condemns the incursion by Israeli soldiers into the Ramallah offices of Addameer - Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association that took place last night, 19 September 2019, around 2:00 AM. Israeli troops broke into the offices of Addameer – our key partner in human rights work – stealing five laptops, memory cards, three laptop drives, one laptop card, several books, and causing damage.

Adalah considers this raid a new step in Israel’s policy of restricting Palestinian human rights institutions. This Israeli military incursion is a direct attack on human rights work in Palestine, and lays bare Israel’s continuing crackdown on civil society institutions and their sources of funding, and reveals ongoing its efforts to defame and incite against human rights defenders.

Adalah affirms its support for Addameer and is confident that such Israeli attacks will not discourage our partners from continuing their essential human rights work on both local and international stages in support of Palestinian prisoners, and against Israeli torture, arbitrary arrests, and unfair trials.
