This bill was proposed in December 2009 and seeks to limit the judicial review powers of the Israeli Supreme Court on citizenship issues. It was put forward in the context of Supreme Court hearings on petitions filed against provisions of the Citizenship and Entry into Israel Law (Temporary Order) – 2003 (amended 2007) that prohibit entry into Israel by Palestinians in the OPT and other “enemy states."
Adalah sent a letter to the Justice Minister and Attorney General on 18 December 2009 requesting that they reject the bill on the grounds that it violates the right of access to the courts, as well as the principle of the separation of powers, and thus the rule of law. There is no coalition agreement to date to promote the bill.
